GBTU, MTU merges as UPTU by UP Government

Reverting Mayawati government's 2010 decision, the Samajwadi Party has formally merged Gautam Buddh Technical University (GBTU) and Mahamaya Technical University (MTU) into Uttar Pradesh Technical University (UPTU), the notification against which was issued on October 31.
To better manage technical colleges in western UP, the erstwhile Mayawati government had set up MTU in Noida. The Act, which brought about the change, felt "that the bifurcation resulted in changing syllabi and assessment methods in the state, which has not been well received. The loss in repute of a well-established UPTU has affected the prospects for further education and employment of its graduates."
The Act further suggests that the "creation of the two universities, only for the purpose of affiliation, does not improve the standard of the technical education in the state."
Various academic bodies, which were holding office in GBTU, will now constitute the body of the UPTU. The merger also brings together 350 plus colleges under GBTU and more than 400 under MTU, having nearly 4 lakh students among them.
UPTU pro vice-chancellor Dr D S Yadav said the syllabi changes will be brought into place from the next academic session.
Yadav, who believes the merger will bring back UPTU's "old glory," said "the second- and third-year students will be taught according to the existing course". By - INDIA EXPRESS
